Allergies and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
Allergies and Indoor Air Quality – Have you noticed the spring pollen? Typically spring yields the highest pollen levels, when plants, grasses, and trees are flowering, particularly in the early mornings.
Warm, dry, and windy weather and climates with little or no rain have high pollen levels. Rain or cool weather dramatically drops allergy levels. However, many plants pollinate year round so you could experience allergy symptoms year round. Pollen is not the only concern with indoor air quality.
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is defined as the conditions that make up the indoor environment of a home, including temperature, humidity, purity, and freshness. Most people are now aware that indoor air quality (IAQ) is an issue of growing concern.
If your HVAC System was not properly installed, or properly maintained and operated, components within the system may become contaminated with particles of dust, pollen or other debris.
If moisture is present, the potential for microbiological growth (e.g., mold) is increased and spores from such growth may be released into the home’s living space. Some of these contaminants may cause allergic reactions or other symptoms in people if they are exposed to them.
Understanding the negative impact of improper humidity control, inadequate ventilation, and the health effects of indoor air that can be 100 times more polluted than outside air is of vital importance. If you can answer yes to any of the questions below, call or contact us today to schedule air duct cleaning or if you have questions regarding our heating and air conditioning services. We’ll be more than happy to assist you!
Questions you should ask concerning indoor air quality in your home or business.
- Are there any areas that are too warm or too cold?
- Does anyone suffer from asthma or allergies?
- Does the home get too muggy or too dry at certain times of the year?
- Do you ever turn on the fan(s) to circulate the air?
- Do you have an abundance of dust in your home?
- Do you have high utility bills?
If you decide to have your heating and cooling system cleaned, it is important to make sure the service provider agrees to clean all components of the system and is qualified to do so. Also good air filters can prolong the life of HVAC systems by keeping the coil and air handler clean and free of debris. Humidity control can also prevent costly damage to wood floors and the expenses associated with mold remediation. Investing in a high-capacity dehumidifier is also a cost-saving measure because it can outlast and cost less to run than most portable units.
How we are different from other AC Companies:
- We pull and clean the evaporator coil (acid wash coil and re-install, braise lines and pull proper vacuum).
- We pull and clean blower assembly, check balance of wheel and check all wiring.
- Apply a microbiocide treatment of air handler and cabinet.
- Fog duct system with micro biocide treatment.
- Clean all wiring.
- Blow out condensate line and treat with condensate pan tables which help in decreasing algae build up.
We always pull the evaporator coil to clean it on an IAQ package. Some other companies pull the coil only if it is heavily soiled. We feel that no matter how dirty it is–it can be cleaned better when pulled.
